Monthly Summary –
February
Group 3: Andragogy
We are now approaching the half-way
point in the semester and we are continuing to make some strides towards what
will be our final project demonstration in April. The month of February was
spent working together as a group in deciding two project topics to investigate
in regards to Andragogy as well as working individually completing the weekly
tasks on discussion board and our individual literature review and posting on
our blog. The
literature review overall broadened our knowledge on the
topic by each of us reading old and current research on Andragogy, as the
theory was introduced back in 1833 by Alexander Kapp, but later put into
practice by Malcolm Knowles. The literature review provided an opportunity for
each one of us to establish a theoretical framework on the topic of Andragogy.
We were able to define key terms and provide definitions, identify studies,
models and case studies which support our topic, and define our area of study
for research. We have begun some research into particular topics to complete
our program investigation by March 3rd. Two topics our group is
considering are Highlander and self-directed learning (SDL). Everyone in our
group has taken on a responsibility to contribute to the program investigation.
Each one of us taking on a different task in which we feel we are most
comfortable and contribute the most value to our team. Each member of the group
has taken an element of the project and offered their contribution to the
overall project’s success.
In
the coming days our group will evaluate each program we have focused on during
the month of February. We then will take this knowledge to develop and evaluate
our own use of Andragogy within the field of adult education. Our understanding
will culminate in April, as our group provides a demonstration of its use for
our classmates to view for their own professional growth and as a resource for their
own educational environments.
